Happy Birthday, Johnny Appleseed

As most educators know that tomorrow (9/26) will be John Chapman a.ka. Johnny Appleseed's birthday. Some classrooms  have been celebrating all week long.
When I taught preschool, I used to have a whole week dedicated to teaching my students about this amazing man. It was a week that I'd always look forward to teaching. Every year, I would share many stories about Johnny Appleseed. It was the best time for me to teach my students about apples, and also ways to teach kindness like Johnny Appleseed had done.
Years ago, while I was still an elementary school student, I remember my teachers sharing stories of Johnny Appleseed. I remember one of my teachers sharing a story about the Apple Star, and then cutting an apple to display a star inside. It was one of my most favorite memories in school. I hope to one day pass this tradition onto my children, as well. If you haven't done this with your little ones, or in your classroom, I encourage you to do so. Your kids will love it. I promise!
